SXSW – Emma Lembke / Monday March 10th — Austin 16ab
Talk Summary: “How Gen Z is Rebuilding Social Media from the Ground Up”
Speaker: Emma Lembke, Gen Z Board Member at the Sustainable Media Center
Emma Lembke, a leading advocate for digital well-being, co-founder of Log Off, and Gen Z Board Member at the Sustainable Media Center, explores how young people are taking an active role in reshaping social media. Unlike previous generations, Gen Z has grown up fully immersed in digital spaces—witnessing both the benefits and the deep harms of platforms designed for profit-driven engagement. Rather than passively accepting the status quo, they are rejecting extractive models and rebuilding social media from the ground up, centering mental health, authentic connection, and user empowerment.
