A new generation of media consumers and creators have become increasingly reliant on a set of electronic platforms that are known to have an enormous influence on the health of their users. These platforms’ business models drive to invade privacy while monetizing every aspect of users’ lives. A civil and democratic society is at risk because of these misaligned incentives.
The Sustainable Media Center serves to foster a new generation of media activism, working to foster agency for consumers and creators who deserve more control in the media ecosystem, rather than to be exploited by it.
To that end, The Sustainable Media Center will invest in research, projects, tools, and actions that align media with individual and collective wellbeing: media that is sustainable.
